In the name of God, the Almighty,¹ the Merciful.

¹ Glorify¹ thou the name of thy Lord, the Most High,

² Who created and fashioned,

³ And who determined and guided,

⁴ And who brought forth the pasture

⁵ Then made it blackening decaying herbage¹

⁶ (We will make thee recite, and thou wilt not forget.¹)

⁷ Save that God should will;¹ He knows the apparent and the hidden.

⁸ And We will ease thee towards ease.

⁹ So remind thou; if the reminder should benefit

¹⁰ He will take heed who fears.

¹¹ But the most wretched will avoid it,

¹² Who will burn in the Great Fire,

¹³ Then will he neither die therein nor live.

¹⁴ He is successful who has purified himself,

¹⁵ And remembers the name of his Lord and performs the duty.¹

¹⁶ The truth is,¹ you prefer the life of this world

¹⁷ When the Hereafter is better and more enduring.

¹⁸ This is in the former scriptures,

¹⁹ The scriptures of Abraham and Moses.¹
